Glass, Light, and Imagination — A Creative Collaboration with Artist Leo Kaspar

In this recent project, I had the pleasure of photographing the work of Leo Kaspar, an artist whose innovative glassblowing technique merges traditional craft with expressive bursts of colour and paint. His latest collection — a series of one-of-a-kind lampshades — pushed the boundaries of what functional design can look and feel like. While we arrived on set with a loose concept in mind, the shoot quickly evolved into a true creative exchange. Guided by instinct, conversation, and our shared visual language, each piece was given its own unique photographic identity.

The first lamp — with its curved form and hovering presence — was imagined and captured as if it were a UFO in flight. For the second, inspired by the swirling pigments within the glass, we explored a cosmic narrative: using the lamp’s own light to cast intricate shadows that suggested the birth of a galaxy. The final piece radiated a soft, ethereal glow — reminiscent of the aurora borealis or bioluminescence — which we framed to enhance its otherworldly quality.

To complement the work, I also photographed portraits of Leo in this creative space, pairing his presence with the lamps he so thoughtfully brought into being. The result is a body of images that not only celebrates the craftsmanship of the glass but also the collaborative spirit of the day — fluid, experimental, and full of visual storytelling.

This work was recently featured in Home & Garden Magazine, marking a proud moment of publication for both artist and photographer.
