KEEP YOUR DISTANCE

Moevir Magazine - Platinum Issue - December 2024

Keep Your Distance was conceived as a study in restraint, power, and timeless elegance — an editorial created for publication in Moevir Magazine Paris and built around a deliberately disciplined visual language. I developed the creative direction for the shoot and led it through planning, styling alignment, and photographic execution, with the intention of creating a body of work that felt both classic and sharply contemporary. Working in black and white allowed the imagery to rely not on excess, but on structure, tonal depth, and the controlled tension between light and shadow.

Central to the series is my signature lighting approach: rich, depth-filled blacks set against strong, sculpting highlights that define the contours of the face, the precision of the tailoring, and the surface detail of each garment. This contrast-led treatment gave the story its graphic clarity and sense of atmosphere, creating images that feel polished, cinematic, and exacting. Rather than overwhelm the frame, the visual language was designed to distil it — allowing silhouette, pose, and texture to carry the weight of the editorial.

Featuring Mabel Reyes, the series unfolds through a carefully paced wardrobe narrative built around enduring fashion codes: structured outerwear, sharp suiting, fluid eveningwear, leather, jewellery, and accessories that speak to a refined and self-contained femininity. The styling was integral to the direction of the shoot, balancing hardness and elegance to create a character who feels poised, untouchable, and fully in command of her presence. Mabel’s performance brought a measured intensity to the imagery, reinforcing the title through gestures and expressions that suggest confidence, distance, and quiet authority.

The result is an editorial that feels authored rather than assembled — a fashion story shaped through clear creative direction and a defined aesthetic point of view. Keep Your Distance reflects my approach as a photographer and creative director: creating visual worlds with precision, leading productions with cohesion and intent, and producing imagery that feels elevated, memorable, and unmistakably considered.
